Meet Michael Schumacher

Growing up in North Dakota, Michael spent summers working his grandparents' farm. By the age of 10, he learned how to milk cows, drive tractors and the family's old Chevy truck. "Having responsibility at a young age is the best gift a child can have. I have wonderful memories of my time working on the farm," Michael says.

After graduating from high school, he received his degree from North Dakota University. He went on to earn a master's with a focus on Tax Increment Financing from Central Michigan University.

Southern California's charms lured Michael with its casual lifestyle. As an outdoor enthusiast, he enjoys surfing, triathlons, dirt biking, camping and is working toward his pilot's license. He shares these passions with his wife Cate and their two children. Together they fell in love with Carlsbad's beach community feel.

Michael owns an asset advisory business in Carlsbad. He specializes in advising clients on how to achieve their financial goals through prudent real estate investments.

Community involvement and public service are a priority in Michael's life. Before his unanimous appointment to Carlsbad's City Council, he served on many boards and committees, including the Planning Commission. Michael is a strong advocate for efficient government that spends taxpayer dollars prudently. He believes government's primary role is to provide the community with the highest level of public safety and community services.

Cate knows Michael as someone who laughs easily and cares deeply for his family and community. Carlsbad knows Michael as its devoted, newest city council member.
