This information is provided by the candidate

I have lived in Encinitas for 28 years. My wife and I have raised two children in this lovely community and over the years our family has thoroughly enjoyed all the wonderful things this city has to offer. And now, after many years of joyful experience, I feel that it is time for me to give back to this community and preserve everything that makes this city so wonderful. That's is why I am running for Mayor. Encinitas is a great city and if elected, I pledge to make this even a better place.

By profession, I am an engineer with over 35 years of career in the design, development and manufacture of high technology products. I am not a politician but as a community member, I have had my share of challenges in raising a family and I know what is good and what is not. And also as an engineer I have had plenty of experience with solving some of the toughest problems. I know all about teamwork, success, customer satisfaction and accountability in developing and marketing a product. The same principles can be applied to managing the city and community affairs. We should expect the best performance from the members of our City Council and the Mayor to ensure that our taxpayers are getting the most for their tax dollars and their voices are heard.

If elected, I have three specific goals

  • Preservation and enhancement of quality of life
  • Fiscal responsibility
  • Listening to the community

In the years I have lived here, I have seen a lot of changes and a lot of growth in Encinitas. Growth and change are part of life - something we cannot stop, our planet is growing at a rate of a million people every 5 days. Growth is progress but if not planned and managed properly, it can have disastrous results and can even cause irreversible damage to our quality of life. Maintaining a clean environment, safety in our neighborhoods and quality education in our schools are also my key priorities.

As for Fiscal Responsibility, I believe it can be achieved through cutting waste and carefully planned uses of our precious resources. I will ensure that people in responsible position in our city get the best deals from our suppliers and contractors through skillful negotiations and properly drafted contracts with adequate built-in protections so the taxpayers can be assured of quality performance and best returns on their tax money.

My third goal is to "Listen to the Community Voice" and by this I also mean taking action so that we can address, prioritize and resolve issues in an expeditious manner.

As a reminder, in 2012, Proposition K was passed and became the law which gives the people of Encinitas the right to directly elect their Mayor. Up until now the Mayor was appointed by the City Council, so the next election will be an historic event when for the first time, you will have the opportunity to bring changes to the leadership in our City Council by choosing someone who can bring fresh perspective and positive changes to the city, and I want you to seize upon that opportunity. On November 4th when you go to the polls, you will have a choice of 5 candidates for Mayor and I hope you will choose me to be your next Mayor.

Finally, I welcome you to visit my website at bawany4mayor.org and send me any suggestions or questions that you might have. I read everything that comes through.

Thank you.
