After serving eight years in the US Army including three years as Senior NCO of a logistics detachment in the Rapid Deployment Force, I began my college education in the field of Engineering. My deployment to a third world country led me to the direction of improving infrastructure as a method of helping combat poverty. While attending school, I volunteered at a local elementary school one day a week as my commitment to community service. After a year of school, I decided that I could have an immediate impact in education and changed my major to History. I returned to the district from which I graduated High School and where my father worked as a custodian, MDUSD.

I worked for twenty-three years to counteract the slow dismantling of public education. I believe we are now at a point where we can change direction back toward the positive. I want to be part of that change.
