Alisa Greene MacAvoy has been a Redwood City School District Board Trustee since 2007. She is currently Board President. She has served on the School District's Policy, Wellness, Homework, Call to Action, and Parcel Tax Feasibility committees. She advocates for education, especially for adequate and consistent funding, with all of our partners, including business groups, parent organizations, locally elected officials, state and federal officials, non-profit organizations and community groups. Alisa enjoys spending time at all 16 school sites and values our staff, community and students. During her tenure on the school board, the District test scores have continued to rise, one school continues to be in the top 10 test scorers in the State and three schools have come out of Program Improvement which is rarely done.

Alisa's priorities include increasing student achievement, maintaining a balanced budget and advocating for school reforms.

She is the San Mateo County School Boards Association Vice President, a Peninsula Open Space Trust Skyline Committee Member and a Redwood City Woman's Club member. She is a former Family Connections Board Member and is currently on Family Connection's Advisory Board. She is the former Clifford School PTO Board President, Carlmont Parents Nursery School Board President and Vice President and Little Hands Board President and Vice President. She was on the Clifford and North Star Academy Site Councils prior to joining the School Board. She has volunteered for years in the schools helping with math, art, field trips, special events, science and more.

Alisa worked at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for eleven years as both an engineer and manager. She managed hazardous waste site clean-ups, watershed protection programs in multiple states, pollution prevention programs for the entire Region, and the sustainable agriculture team.

She holds a B.S. and M.S. from Stanford University in the Civil Engineering Department with an environmental and energy planning emphasis. She also completed the California School Boards Masters in Governance training.

Alisa lives in Redwood City with her husband and two girls who both attend their local Redwood City elementary public schools.
