The Budget and Fiscal Sustainability

By Pat Gilardi

Candidate for Council Member; City of Cotati

This information is provided by the candidate
Over the last two years we, and cities throughout California, have been faced with overwhelming budget deficits. We must work harder to identify sustainable practices that insure fiscal stability in the future. The citizens of Cotati recently approved a quarter cent sales tax for five years, allowing us time to better examine our efficiencies or lack thereof. We have made great strides in grant funding in order to implement some of the plans we have adopted. Those recent grants include the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) $1.5 million dollar grant for the Santero Way Specific Plan, as well as $1.2 million in Transportation for Livable Communities (TLC) grant funding for our Northern Gateway Specific Plan. These are achievements truly commendable for a city the size of Cotati. We must continue to be vigilant in exploring alternative sources of funding and working smart with limited resources.
