Physicain Recruitment

By Nancy Dobbs

Candidate for Board Member; Palm Drive Health Care District; 4 Year Full Term

This information is provided by the candidate
Across the country the recruitment of physicians is becoming more and more difficult. Palm Drive must be very strategic in how we approach this critical issue.
Various changes in the field of health care delivery have made it increasingly difficult to attract new physicians to many communities. There is a sharp and regrettable trend away from primary care, many new doctors were trained with electronic medical records and will not consider a hospital without this capacity, and many doctors are opting for an employment situation, such as an HMO, rather than a solo practice.

Palm Drive Medical Center is installing an electronic medical records system, we are enlarging the offices, and can offer more of a group setting for the practitioners. Creating this environment makes Palm Drive a more attractive option for physicians.

In addition, the preference in the national health legislation for Accountable Care Organizations suggests a more integrated approach between the hospital and doctors, health clinics, and other local practitioners. As we develop our physician recruitment plans, we must take all these factors into account thoughtfully to create a successful outcome.
