Maintenance of Critical Services

Maintaining Public Safety Services: Police, Fire, and Ambulances, is a primary responsibility of local government.
Just as it is the responsibility of the federal government to insure the national defense, it is the responsibility of local government to insure the public safety of its citizens through professional Police, Fire,and Ambulance services. Petaluma is fortunate to have an excellent Police Department and a superb Fire Department that provides full service fire protection and paramedic ambulance service. Over the past 18 months,city staff has been reduced and those employees remaining have agreed to accept a 3% pay reduction that involves unpaid furlouhs. These reductions in staff have included the Police and Fire Departments. The Police and Fire Departments need to contribute to the city's cost reduction programs but not by compromising the protective services that the community expects in times of need.
