There is little or no money in the city budget to fund capital purchases or to make infrastructure improvements to streets and municipal buildings.With a city budget that began this fiscal year with only a $5,000 reserve fund, there is little money available for infratructure improvements such as streets or major building repairs. The city's vehicle replacement fund is completely depleted. The front line fire apparatus and ambulances have more miles on them than the existing reserve apparatus and ambulances. In the event of a major breakdown, the monies for repairs would have to come from some other existing budgeted source. Basically, taking from Peter to pay Paul. The city needs to actively pursue alternate funding sources (grants and lease purchases)to fund infrastructure needs and make necessary capital purchases. |
