Why City Council

By Kamala Silva Wolfe

Candidate for City Council; City of South San Francisco

This information is provided by the candidate
A few reasons why I am running for City Council and challenging the 3 incumbents.
People ask me why I am running for city council especially when there are three incumbents running in this same election. Presented below are only a few of the reasons.

· Without me running, there would be no election and it would be an automatic four years to our existing 3 council members. There would be no dialogue of what has happened during the past four years; the good, the bad, and the ugly. Nor would there be a discussion about what is to come in the next four years for our city.

· Elections make for good democracy and it is what our service folks are fighting for in other countries, to bring this privilege of voting to others. This is what our forefathers and mothers fought and worked for to give to us. And yet we all see the low voter turnout in our own country. We need to honor the sacrifices that have been made by practicing our RIGHT and our RESPONSIBILITY and VOTE. Pick one item on the ballot, become educated and VOTE!

Do not let APATHY win! ROCK THE VOTE!!

· While I will continue to represent ALL in our city, I bring also bring a deeper perspective and understanding that comes from being a mom. No one else on our council has this qualification.

A woman also brings a different perspective which is needed for balance and to represent the diversity of our city. Our demographics show the majority of people living in our city are woman with children. Better representation is needed.

· As a successful business woman I know tough choices have to be made and I have the determination to make those decisions for the best outcome for our city. We need a line by line look at our budget; we need to be sure all the programs we are funding are serving the greater good of our community. We need to be accountable and we need to sustain the best for the next generations.

As a businesswoman and a mother, I know how to do more with less.

· I am running for council because I know how insulating long term council members can be from the everyday reality. I want to see all of our residents be able to learn how to `use the system' that is set up. Learn one, do one, teach one.
