Dedicated, Experienced & Community Active

By Ken Ibarra

Candidate for City Council; City of San Bruno

This information is provided by the candidate
All San Bruno residents and business owners want a dedicated, experienced and community active representative to look out for their current and future best interests.
For nearly 14 years I have had the honor and privilege of representing the citizens of San Bruno. I am grateful for the support and the rewarding experiences that my community service has produced.

As a 32 year resident, I have been very active throughout the city, working tirelessly to help my community. You've seen me at fundraisers, as a worker or a contributing participant. You've seen me at school events, supporting our children and young adults. You've seen me in parks, either coaching or supporting our many youth sports programs. You've seen me at the Senior Center, volunteering at the weekly Bingo or helping with some of their many events. It is a life that is full, rewarding and fun.

As your Councilman, I have been a part of many accomplishments.

  • Approved and implemented Redevelopment - allowing our City to help fund commercial development, residential improvements and schools.
  • Approved and continue to oversee the "Crossings" development with quality rental housing, a new senior housing complex, new condiminiums and soon, a new casual fine dining restaurant.
  • Implemented the ongoing improvements of the Downtown, by improving landscaping, lighting and parking, in addition to creating a program to help business owners fund their storefront improvements.
  • Implemented the continuing improvements to our cable, water, sewer and stormwater systems.
  • Improved City landscaping by upgrading median strips and expanding maintenance.
  • Approved balanced budgets and maintained a high level of City services, especially in our Police and Fire Departments - while facing the most difficult financial downturn in our history.

In addition to those ongoing projects I will continue to:
  • Work to upgrade our residential neighborhoods with street and sidewalk improvements, better lighting and continued code enforcement.
  • Actively work to seek community support and find solutions to build a new library, new swimming pool complex and new fire stations.
  • Actively support and participate in the many activities at the Senior Center, in addition to seeking solutions for expansion.
  • Support our Recreation Department in ongoing efforts to expand programs, improve parks and upgrade facilities.
  • Be protective and sensitive of residents and businesses as we prepare for the upcoming Caltrain Grade Separation project.
  • Promote City-sponsored events and programs with all schools, public and private, including Capuchino High School and Skyline College.
  • Improve our Downtown, in addition to upgrading our commercial corridors by implementing new design and economic guidelines that are advantageous and sensitive to our residents.
  • Listen, ask questions and respond to all issues.

We are living in very difficult times. The past few years have been especially difficult with the dwindling economy and financial uncertainty. Fortunately, the City has been able to weather the financial problems with minimal effects on our residents. The future is promising and San Bruno is prepared to move forward.

I am proud to be your City Councilman and I promise to continue to be your active and dedicated servant. To continue receiving the best service San Bruno deserves, please vote to re-elect Ken Ibarra.
