What is your safety worth?
When the economy is at the level it is now crime is up. That is a statistic. Sad but true. Now is not the time to lower our standard of security by reducing our Police & Fire staff. We need to feel safe and secure in our community. It is true that Police & Fire are the biggest expense that a city buget has. That is because we require the best quality hire for our personnel. We used to be a training ground for other cities. We would hire and train..and after a year the employee would transfer to another city with better pay and better benifits. Not any more. What can we do to offset this expense? Do we really want to? What price do we put on our security? There are always ways to cut cost, recently our Fire Dept. chose to go from a four man truck to a three man. This was the kind of creative thinking that we need from all departments.
