There is no question we are in extraordinarily difficult economic times. As with previous downturns, this too will pass though it appears recovery may take longer than we had anticipated a short time ago. We must listen to the business community and make every effort to support our local merchants. Our ongoing partnership with the Chamber of Commerce is critical as is providing business friendly and helpful services. We must also continue diligent efforts to reduce the City's operating costs with minimal impacts on services to residents. We must increase our efforts to secure grants and other funding sources for projects and programs. While taking these steps, we need to maintain our tradition of visionary government and planning for the future.
