Top Priorities

By Sharifa Wilson

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Ravenswood City School District

This information is provided by the candidate
The Board must focus it's effort on addressing issues that will improve the quality of education our students receive.
Some of my top priorities include:
  • Improving outcomes for all students by adopting a district- wide improvement plan that addresses all aspects of school effectiveness.

  • Reducing the drop- out rate by changing our Middle schools to environments for student success. We must decrease the drop out rate among students who leave Ravenswood and go to Sequoia district by preparing our students k -8, to succeed in high School.

  • Developing a comprehensive strategic plan to increase student achievement levels. There must be a strong focus on ensuring academic success for each student; a willingness to experiment with a variety of strategies; and the use of current research on effective school improvement models.

  • Developing an effective parent involvement program. Involving families in schools can have a positive effect on student achievement. We must have an effective parent involvement program where parents are provided with training and encouraged to support their student success in school.

  • Creating partnerships with city, county and community agencies to provide our students and families increased access to services. We can create an environment where our schools become a vital resource for families and community members.
