Improve Attendance in Cajon Valley Schools

By Suzanne M. (Braatz) Mullins

Candidate for Board Member; Cajon Valley Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Currently the Cajon Valley District is in crisis. We need to make our schools attractive once again to the best and brightest. We are losing students at a steady rate each year. The loss of students has begun to take its toll. Test scores have dipped. Combination classes have been added. Middle school students have had non-academic classes trimmed from their schedules. It is necessary to address why students are leaving. Is it due to Charter schools? Home Schooling? Is it the perception that CVUSD Schools are inferior to surrounding districts: Alpine? Santee? Lakeside? La Mesa? Spring Valley? Magnets sites' and the inclusion of non-academic electives would make school a more comfortable fit for students that now are failing to attend. I want Cajon Valley kids and parents to be thrilled by the opportunity to attend Cajon Valley Schools.
