DISTRICT BACKGROUND. Four years as a Governing Board Member, San Juan Unified School District, including two years as President. Ran for School Board in 2000, receiving the endorsements of most every group that endorsed, including the San Juan Teachers Association, the Citrus Heights Chamber of Commerce, the California School Employees Association, Teamsters, Sacramento Labor Council, and the Sacramento Bee. Involved at the local school level, volunteering from 1996-2002 for the El Camino High School Boosters Club, including two years on the El Camino HS Boosters Club Board of Directors.

EXPERIENCE. Owner, The Miles Law Firm, 28 years legal experience. Mediator, Arbitrator -Settlement Judge Pro Tem for Sacramento County Superior Court; former VP & General Counsel of $350 million dollar company; former Assistant to UC President.

COMMUNITY LEADER. Involved in numerous civic and community affairs for decades. Served as a member of the Mather AFB Advisory Commission,2005; served as a member of the Finance Committee and Stewardship Co-Chair for St. Marks Methodist Church; Board of Directors, Sierra Service Project (helping young people serve on Indian service projects), 2004-2007; flew medical personnel to Baja for over ten years for the Flying Samaritans.

YOUTH INVOLVEMENT. Soccer, softball, and baseball coach, 1989-2002. Church youth commission. Volunteer in high school sports program.

EDUCATION. B.A., UCLA graduated with honors, Student Body President, Chairman of the UC Student Body Presidents Council, and named Outstanding Senior, 1975; M.A., Occidental College, 1976; CORO Fellow in Public Affairs, 1976; J.D., U.C. Davis School of Law, 1980.

FAMILY. Married to wife Marsha for 29 years. Two children, Jonathan and Katherine, who attended District schools, graduating from El Camino High School.
