EMPLOYMENT

California Department of Education, Charter Schools Division. Responsible for monitoring State Board of Education-chartered schools and all-charter districts, and regional consultant for bay area counties. Served as consultant, administrator, and Interim Director. Retired in December 2007. Continuing to serve as a retired annuitant on a part-time basis.

California Department of Education. Assistant to the Deputy Superintendent, Curriculum and Instruction Branch (December 2003-September 2005). Reviewed work submitted by four divisions and made recommendations to Deputy Superintendent on administrative matters, legislation, and policy.

State Board of Education. At various times, Assistant Executive Director, Interim Executive Director, and Interim Deputy Executive Director (July 1999-December 2003). Took leave of absence February-June 2000 for family medical crisis.

California Department of Education. Curriculum Frameworks and Instructional Resources Division. Consultant, primarily responsible for AB 2519 Additional Adoptions Process, a special adoption of content-standards-aligned instructional materials in reading/language arts and mathematics, the largest single adoption of instructional materials in California history (1998-99). [Voluntary reassignment to provide for increased family responsibilities.]

State Board of Education. Assistant Executive Director of the State Board of Education, largely maintaining the same responsibilities as listed below (1997-98). [Voluntary reassignment as part of reorganization and expansion of the SBE Office.]

State Board of Education. Executive Director, responsible for agenda preparation, issue analysis, office management, budget oversight, and liaison with the California Department of Education (1992-96).

California Department of Education. Administrative Assistant to the Deputy Superintendent for Field Services (1992).

California Department of Education. Instructional Services and Teaching Support Division. Consultant, responsible for school accountability report card project, waivers of teacher credenitaling requirements (other than special education), coordination activities related to California Education Summit, staffing of Committee on Transition to Community College of the Superintendent's High School Task Force, liaison to the University of California, California Postsecondary Education Commission, and the California Community Colleges, and coordination of the California Teacher of the Year Program (1988-92). [Voluntary reassignment to provide for paternity leave and expanded family responsibilities.]

State Board of Education. Executive Director (1987-88). [See responsibilities above.]

Commission on State Finance. Director of Expenditure Forecasting, responsible for development of Commission's quarterly (short-term) and annual (long-term) forecasts of General fund expenditures (1984-87).

California Department of Education. Legislative Coordinator in the Office of Governmental Affairs (1981-82), Chief of the Office of Fiscal Policy and External Liaison (1982-83), Chief of School Apportionments and Fiscal Services (1983-84).

Senate Committee on Finance. Consultant, responsible for various budget assignments, including K-12 and postsecondary education, retirement, judiciary, and general government (1978-81).

Honorable Albert S. Rodda, Member of the Senate. Legislative Assistant (1974-76); Administrative Assistant (1976-78).

EDUCATION

University of San Francisco. Master of Public Administration (2005).

California State University Sacramento. Bachelor of Arts, major in Communication Studies, minor in Library Science (1974).

California State Parent-Teacher Association. Twice received Honorary Service Award (1994 and 2000).
