Smart Voter Full Biography for Stanley E. Roberts

Candidate for
City Council member; City of Foster City

This information is provided by the candidate

For those who don't know who I am, my name is Stanley Roberts. This is my second bid for the office of city council. Some of Foster City's residents know me because of my work as a reporter on KRON-4 TV. Others may have seen me on Bay Area Backroads. I am proud to be a Foster City resident for now close to 4 years.

In my professional career in broadcasting I created and produce a segment called People Behaving Badly a news segment on KRON 4. In this segment of the news I go after city workers who waste your hard earned dollars. Covering the news for the past 15 years has opened my eyes to the problems that many people face in their daily lives. One major issue is that in many cities the voices of the people too often go unheard. Too often if a resident has an idea or a complaint they don't feel comfortable enough to visit their council member and speak up. I want to make sure that communication is simple and accessible to all residents of Foster City. I want to assure of every resident a voice in their local government.

I have a commitment to make sure every child has an quality education. That the people responsible for their education, teachers, have the supplies and salaries to do their jobs.

The empty 15-acre site in the heart of our city is currently zoned for educational use. In June 2006, the current council asked the residents what they wanted to see on that site - 80% of 1100 responding, said "High School." On September 17, 2007, in a 3-2 vote after midnight, the current council (2 incumbent candidates) voted AGAINST hearing what the citizens of the community think about a Community Education Center that would include a tuition-free charter public high school. I continue to support the development of a Community Education Center that would benefit our entire community.

I strongly believe that a strong police and fire presence in Foster City should always be maintained. Our city should become self reliant so when, not if, the next disaster strikes Foster City won't have to wait for the federal government to act while our citizens suffer.

I believe any and all residents should be allowed to economically convert to alternative energy sources. Our city should lead the way by doing its part by deciding to switch to some form of alternative energy to power its services and offices. I believe that the development of solar energy in that instance should be a priority.

I ask that on November 6 2007 when you cast your vote please cast it for Stanley E. Roberts.
