Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Rebecca C. Husted

Candidate for
Board Member; Broadmoor Police Protection District

This information is provided by the candidate

Since making the choice to become a resident and property owner in Broadmoor Village nearly a decade ago, my passion for this community has grown exponentially. It's truly the first place ever that my family has felt like we could call HOME and we wish to remain here for many years to come It's where I live, it's where I work and it's where my daughter will be raised. It is for these reasons that I have always worked to become more involved in the administration of this community and to help wherever I can to improve the quality of life for all of us.

I'm an active member and advocate of this community as shown by my years of service on the Broadmoor Property Owners Association and in my vision and approach when marketing and selling Broadmoor Village, Garden Village, Sterling Park and other Unincorporated Colma area properties. It has become important to me to show the public at large that these communities offer a truly unique appeal and that they have so much more to offer a family than meets the eye. It's truly a place that should be recognized as a neighborhood to be highly desired as the place to purchase, live and watch your families thrive and grow.

I've always been supportive of our Police and Fire Departments, have helped out the Police Department by providing data and ideas for area projects, and participate wherever and whenever needed. Our community is blessed to have this special Police Department of devoted and caring individuals. Anyone who has ever needed our department knows and values the quick and caring response we always receive.

I'm aware of rumors that I may not be in support of our Special Police District and that it is my desire to see it disbanded. That could not be farther from the truth and it concerns me greatly that this misinformation is being spread. I recognize the uniqueness of our district and would like to see it prosper and grow. This will not only benefit our citizens from a safety standpoint, but it continues to be a great benefit to our property values. I ask you + why would I want to cause this type of change? What would be the benefit to me or anyone else?

Some ask why change anything? Why do we feel it's time for a change? What's wrong with the way things are? My answer to that is that change is inevitable. New eyes and perspectives will ensure that positive change occurs.

I believe in change - CHANGE IS GOOD. Hence my desire to be your next Police Commissioner.

My Qualifications:

I have served on the Broadmoor Property Owners Association for over 5 years now, working hard to keep the needs and views of the Citizens of this community in front of the Association. And, when I mention Citizens of this community, I speak of ALL aspects of these citizens. Some forget that the bulk of our population has not been here for 35 years. We are no longer a neighborhood of original owners. There are hundreds of owners who have lived here for 10 years or less. Who is looking out for their best interests? By being active in this ever changing community - I feel I really know the people. I know the daily challenges of paying high mortgages and property taxes. I know the challenges of two parents working while trying to raise children and worrying about the safety of those children at school, dodging speeding cars on our streets, and the challenge to keep our property values up while properties around us are being neglected and left to rot in place, often next door to us. I have successfully served this community as a Top Realtor for over 6 years and believe my passion for this community and the personal touch I provide proves how much I love this community and wish it to grow and thrive. My ability to administer my own business budget on a cost-effective basis, as well as two other family businesses, and my past 20 year experience of managing budgets and facilities for a large corporation will allow me to work with our police department while making sure to serve our community in utilizing all resources available. My Position:

It is my intent to be the voice of the Citizens of this community. Those that live here and pay taxes here. I feel that many new citizens are not represented by the "old" crew. We have nearly 40 homes sold each year which means nearly 40 new families join us each year or between 300-400 in the past 10 years alone! Who is looking out for the needs of these new citizens? This is no longer the late 1940's. Life has changed and so should our views. It is not my intent to vote to raise taxes - rather to oversee that the taxes paid by our community are utilized in the most efficient and cost effective manner allowed while working to maintain and, wherever possible, increase the level of service to our community. It is not my intent to see any more property annexed into Daly City or Colma but to further define Broadmoor Village as a viable community on its own with great potential and value. It is my intent to Serve our Community to the best of my ability and to fight for what is important to ALL of us. Thank you for taking the time to consider me as your next Police Commissioner. I stand ready, willing and able to serve you and appreciate your vote.
