Ballot Statement

By Annette K. Hipona

Candidate for School Board Member; Jefferson Elementary School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Everyday, I'm out in our communities listening to your concerns: academics, student safety, retaining our great teaching and support staff, and greater financial oversight.

During my school board term, test scores have gone up for nearly all students, we've earned over a million in grants, built two new gymnasiums, and partnered with Colma and Daly City to create soccer fields we share. I've championed open government by demanding televised school board meetings and served as peacekeeper, consensus builder, and a voice of reason on our school board.

I voted to fund smaller classes and keep library and computer aides. I voted against the superintendent's 33% raise. Children are my top priority and I invest in what most directly supports student learning. I'll continue to put the needs of children first.

I'm an outspoken advocate for affordable housing and living wage jobs so working families can continue living here and attending our schools.

I've been everything from School Board Member to PTA officer, from classroom tutor to soccer coach. I'm proud mother to three children, one employed by and two attending local colleges. Two of my key endorsers are retired public school teacher Daly City Councilmember Judith Christensen and Senator Leland Yee.
