Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Menlo Park

This information is provided by the candidate
I have made Menlo Park my "business" for almost twenty years.
I have made Menlo Park my "business" for almost twenty years. A 19-year resident, I am a mother of three: Kristen, Cathy, and Rick. All have grown up in Menlo Park and gone to local schools. My husband, Bob, and I have been married for 29 years and met while undergraduates at Stanford University where I earned my B.A. degree in 1977. I am also the proud daughter of my Dad, a vital and robust "senior" citizen. I understand the pressures our families face every day -- caring for their children and their aging parents at the same time working hard in and out of the home.

I have worked tirelessly in this community as a volunteer including extensive roles at both Oak Knoll, Hillview, Menlo Atherton High School, and Castilleja. I've been a board member and Secretary of the Menlo Park Atherton Education Foundation. I've coordinated extensive community service programs at both Oak Knoll and Hillview Schools. In addition I served as an active Parks and Recreation Commissioner for 10 years. I served as both chair and vice-chair and was responsible for organizing the Menlo Park Youth Commission, serving as the commission liaison on the Recreational and Clutural Master Plan process, and working with our school districts to help facilitate long-term joint use agreements of the play fields.

I've worked on school bond and parcel tax elections as well as being on the Measure T campaign committee. (This was a bond measure that helped pay for such improvements as the Burgess Pool complex and Burgess Park play fields). Upon passage of this $38 Million bond measure, I faciliated citywide forums to aid the long term planning for the facilities that would be upgraded with the bond money.

These last four years I've served on the City Council as both Mayor and Vice Mayor. I am presently serving as the co-chair of the San Francisquito Creek Joint Power Agency, which is overseeing a mulitmillion-dollar and multi-year flood control and habitat restoration project with the Army Corps of Engineers. My door is always open.
