This information is provided by the candidate

I was born and raised in Napa, California. I have lived in Petaluma for the past 28 years. My wife, Carol, and I have been married for 25 years. We have two children, Katie, who is 23 years old and a recent graduate from U.C. Davis, and Matt, who is 17 years old and a junior at Casa Grande High School.

I was elected to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors in November, 1998, and took office in January, 1999, representing the Second District. I am proud of my record of accomplishments as Supervisor, some of which are:
--I led the effort to widen Highway 101 and am working to implement the plan for passenger rail service.
--Under my leadership, we acquired the 1,769 acre Tolay Lake Ranch, which will become a much needed regional park.
--I have helped protect over 70,000 acres of open space in Sonoma County, including the expansion of Shollenberger Park and the Baylands Property near San Pablo Bay.
--I formed an assessment district to fund the Canon Manor West Improvement Project.
--I have also worked to improve public safety, including adding deputies and securing state funding to rebuild the juvenile hall.

I currently hold these positions:

Chair Pro Tem--Sonoma County Board of Supervisors

Director--Sonoma County Water Agency

Vice Chair--Sonoma County Transportation Authority

Vice Chair--SMART (Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit) District

Executive Board Member--Association of Bay Area Governments

Vice Chair--Northbay Watershed Association

Member--LAFCO (Local Agency Formation Commission)

Member--WTA CAC (Water Transit Authority Community Advisory Committee)

Director--Board of Directors, Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District

Member--PAG (Policy Advisory Group) for Sonoma-Marin Narrows Project

Director--Board of Directors, Speedway Charities

Member--Sonoma County Children and Families Commission

It has always been important to me to protect the quality of life that we enjoy in Sonoma County. I will continue to seek opportunities for affordable housing, responsibly manage growth, and protect our groundwater and water quality so that our environment stays healthy and sustainable for generations to come.
