Resolution

By Alan M. Gilbert

Candidate for Democratic Party County Central Committee; County of San Mateo; Supervisorial District 2

While the California Democratic Party at its convention on April 15-17, 2005, passed many fine resolutions, they amounted to (to quote MacBeth) "sound and fury, signifying nothing". While my resolution (below) which addresses the crux of the Democratic Party's (and the country's) needs and problems was NOT CONSIDERED. Subsequently, it has been ignored by the various politicians to whom it was given. Now, after Katrina and Bush's dictatorial infringements on our liberties, this is even more relevant.

DEMOCRATS NEED TO DEVELOP THE NECESSARY AWARENESS AND REPETION OF OUR ISSUES TO SAVE OUR COUNTRY

Whereas the following call to action was passed on July 8, 1998:

"Therefore be it resolved that the Peninsula Democratic Coalition encourage all Democratic officeholders and politicians to engage in the proper support of their own interests and initiatives so as to achieve the proper control of the political offices to the benefit of the United States."

and a similar resolution was passed by the California Democratic Council and only by the California Democratic Party on April 1, 2001, after the 2000 election was lost and obviously to no avail, and

Whereas during the 2004 Presidential campaign, most of the public disapproved of the George W. Bush administration's handling of international relations and the Iraq war as well as the economy but still liked him and thought he was a "nice man" (as important Democrats volunteered on national programs) and "the kind of guy you would like to have a beer with", our spokespersons ignored the following comment to the Assistant Secretary of State on February 12, 2003:

"The Bush ABC (Anything But Clinton) policy including unilateralism, pre-emption, and hubris having antagonized most of the world, can he continue to cow the Democrats and fool the people with "it's the war, stupid" and a supposed compassionate conservative moderation that has in fact been stubborn unyielding extremism, where even Afghanistan's success has evaporated - not a formula for success in Iraq where increased terrorism likely will result?"

which was widely distributed along with the Republican lies about the economy should have been the basic Democratic agenda and

Whereas there are huge differences between the Republican and Democratic parties, with Democrats representing the interests of the average citizens, who continue to not be informed and thus vote against their own interests, and Republicans catering to the rich and elite; and Democrats have not been willing to define the Republican lies and not make the points that the Republicans in fact are not the people protecting our national security and the homeland and our economy (where the annual federal deficit is $600+ billion - not $400 billion and is headed to $1 trillion) and the future.

Therefore because concerned Democrats are upset that these elections that should have been won were lost, be it resolved that the California Democratic Party will implore our visible state and national spokespersons to understand their own and our interests and vigorously, aggressively, and constantly pursue them and refute the lies of the Republicans and to achieve the necessary awareness and statement of the issues to appeal to Democrats, Independents, and moderate Republicans to take back our country, where we are in danger of losing our liberties and having an economic catastrophe.

Submitted by club member Alan M. Gilbert, CPA, and accepted by the Peninsula Democratic Coalition Executive Board on April 13, 2005.

I believe the foregoing defines what Democrats need to do to accomplish the goal of winning elections and governing. Instead of the usual housekeeping, the greater goal of the Central Committee should be to develop an awareness of the issues so as to be able to disseminate them to the voting public.

I shall continue to strive for that objective and would appreciate your vote as a mandate for the Committee toward greater knowledge and success.
