Listening and Acting for San Mateo

Each person has a story to tell, an opinion or important fact to relate whether they are a businessperson, resident, neighborhood representative, worker, etc. I have always believed that elected representatives should not only listen but also study the issues in detail. Only then should they make up their minds and be prepared to vote. While I do not believe in unnecessary delays, I also believe information must be available or a poor decision could be made. We need to continue to have a sense of urgency to make decisions but we need to progress with caution.

I will continue to listen and then act for San Mateo even though we may not always agree on every issue. In the best interests of all parties - I will study each project or action before me to include the views of our neighborhoods, our businesses, our environment, our finances and the cities around ours. My primary sources of information have generally been neighborhood and homeowner associations. Occasionally this has required me to fight for something that I may not agree with fully, I will continue to do this as your elected representative. Sometimes, a middle ground must be identified to satisfy as many parties as possible.

We cannot prevent progress, however, we can and should manage progress in a responsible and sensitive fashion. Change will come. We need to be able to communicate it, prepare for it and minimize its negative impacts on the Quality of Life that we have come to expect and want to obtain.

I have been attributed with the approach of representing a balanced and fair view of both issues and their solutions. I like to think this is true and will continue to work to live up to this expectation.

I will continue Listening and Acting for San Mateo.
