City Clerk Involvement with Live-alone seniors and school-age children

By Joyce Ann Fritz

Candidate for City Clerk; City of San Bruno

This information is provided by the candidate
I would like to set up a telephone life-line where seniors living alone can call into the Clerk's Office each day to check in. I would like to also establish an after school homework center offering tutoring for students referred by teachers.
The City Clerk is a full-time Secretary/Historian of the City of San Bruno Government Records, including ordinances, resolutions, minutes of the City Council, agreements, and much more. The Clerk's Office is also an impartial and service-oriented division of the City, and respectfully serves as a direct link to its citizens, public, and City departments by making available the records necessary for the City to advance its administrative, legal, and legislative functions. But the City Clerk's Office can offer more than its regular duties.

It can offer a telephone life line whereby seniors living alone can check in each day with the Office, knowing if they do not check in we will call them. If we receive no response we can ask our Police Department to do a Welfare Check on the residence. This would be especially helpful for the seniors living alone with no relatives and those with out of town relatives. This would offer a feeling of security to our seniors and their families, at no cost to the Ctiy.

I would also like to offer an after school homework center for school-age children (referred by teachers) that need tutoring and find it difficult to receive that extra attention to complete their assignments. It could be staffed by volunteers through the community that could offer their expertise in various subjects. Retirees and seniors could be especially helpful in this area. We could do background checks through the Police Department so that all volunteers would be cleared. Again, no cost to the City.

I feel that I have many more ideas for more community involvement of the City Clerk's Office. It is especially helpful to have previously worked for the City as an Administrative Assistant as well as assisting in the City Clerk's Office. The former City Clerk, Terri Rasmussen wrote me a letter of recommendation, and I have worked with many of the current department heads and employees.

I believe that my education, professional background, knowledge, and previous 14 years City of San Bruno work experience qualify me to serve the citizens of San Bruno.
