Candidate for
Board Member; Burlingame School District

Marc Friedman was elected to the Burlingame School District Board of Trustees in November 2001. He is currently the Vice President of the Board.

When he joined the Board the district was struggling financially. During his four years on the Board through strong community support and excellent management the financial situation has stabilized. In fact, the district has been able to increase instructional program staffing from the levels of four years ago. Additionally, Standard and Poors, the major financial rating agency, recognized the improvement in the financial condition and raised the rating on the district's bonds.

More importantly, the district has continued to deliver an excellent education for all of our students. Last year the Academic Performance Index test scores of the district schools increased to 850 from 836 (where 800 is the level identified by the state as "excellent"). Additionally in the last four years two of the district's schools were named California Distinguished Schools.

Prior to his election, Marc had been active in a variety of district activities including serving as chairman of the district's Strategic Planning Committee, Treasurer and Executive Committee member of Burlingame Community for Education, and a member of the district's Budget Advisory Committee.

Marc's professional career includes 25 years of experience in finance, market research and strategic planning with management and hands-on experience in the consulting, global capital management and retail industries. Marc is also a Senior Faculty member of the Keller Graduate School of Business. He holds an MBA with a concentration in Finance, an MA with a concentration in Marketing and a BA in sociology. Marc and his wife, Madalyn have lived in Burlingame since 1997, and his two daughters are currently students at District schools.
