What about our water quality?

By Jim Harvey

Candidate for Board Member; Montara Water and Sanitary District; 2 Year Term

This information is provided by the candidate
Among the conditions imposed by the State Department of Health Services (DHS) was the requirement that we put in a centralized treatment plant for the airport well field. We have begun that project. Improving water quality is one of the primary issues driving the purchase. According to DHS on (10/6/03), our water is "OK to drink".

What are our plans for new sourced of water?

Our priority is to find another water supply as soon as possible. We anticipate drilling seven test wells this year. They will be at the base of Montara Mountain. They will not affect any residential wells.

Why not get water from CCWD?

They don't have enough. Ed Schmidt, General Manager of CCWD wrote (10/7/03), "Except for a temporary emergency, for which we already have an agreement for the hauling of water, I don't see CCWD being able to provide Montara/Moss Beach with a permanent supply of water from CCWD existing sources". Water from North Coast Water District is a possibility and we will discuss that with them when the tunnel is begun with its 12 inch water pipe for fire services.
