MidCoast Community Council - Communication and Information

By Gael Erickson

Candidate for Board Member; Midcoast Community Council

This information is provided by the candidate
As a resident and homeowner in El Granada, I am always concerned about decisions that affect the quality of life on the coast. My goal is to promote a solid, two-way communication between the Board of Supervisors and citizens on all issues with special emphasis on land use, parks and recreation, and public safety.
I have over twenty years' experience as a teacher, technical communicator, and instructional designer. With this experience I can make sure information and feedback is communicated clearly and quickly. As we move toward 2004, we face new state and county budget constraints that will effect many service, spending, and planning decisions. How will these decisions affect you and how will you know about new issues and pending decisions?

The growing need for more public communication inspired me to run for a position on the Midcoast Community Council. I believe my professional experience as a teacher, technical communicator, and instructional designer will enable me to provide essential information to my constituents and respond to community concerns in a clear and timely manner. I want to make sure you know what the Midcoast Community Council is doing and how your voice can be heard.

Many of the issues addressed by the MidCoast Community Council deal with long-term projects and affect everyone who lives here. As a representative on the Midcoast Council, I will advocate for continued involvement in areas that will benefit residents. I will monitor the progress of local issues to ensure that our citizens are informed and engaged in the decision making process.

I am currently active on several projects for the Midcoast Community Council Parks and Recreation Committee and I volunteer with Midcoast Park Lands. I am a board member of the Committee for the Green Foothills and and I lead many activities for Greenbelt Alliance. My professional qualifications and experience with local environmental and community issues will make me an effective representative of the residents of the Midcoast. I promise to work diligently and efficiently to preserve the quality of life on the coast and reach out to our citizens to encourage involvement and communication.
