Peninsual Hospital Plan

By Dan E. Andersen

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Burlingame

This information is provided by the candidate
There are several major environmental and contractual issues surrounding the plan to build a new acute-care Hospital. It is not free.
Proposed Peninsula Hospital Plan

The plan presented by Sutter Health Network and its affiliate, Mills-Peninsula Heath Services, to build a new acute-care facility to replace the existing hospital involves several major issues connected with final approval of the proposal.

Areas of major concern:

  • Limited revenue of only $1 per year from the 26 acres of Peninsula Health Care District-owned land
  • Zero revenue to the District from the proposed 145,000-square-foot office/administration building
  • Whether the District will be able to pay off the nondepreciated value at the end of the 50-year lease
  • The need to ensure that core services are maintained
  • Restricting sublets of District land
  • Use of District tax money to subsidize the new hospital
