Smart Voter Official Statement for Donald Newman

Candidate for
Board Member; Peninsula Health Care District

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

DONALD NEWMAN Age: 70

Occupation: Physician

Education and Qualifications:

As one of only two board members who does not have a conflict of interest, I have had a leading role in negotiating with Mills Peninsula Hospital and Sutter Health to build a new hospital for 350 million dollars at no cost to the taxpayers. Peninsula Hospital does not meet earthquake standards and must be replaced by 2013. I support an arrangement that includes appropriate compensation to the district for the lease or sale of its land for the building of a new hospital. I believe the district should have an oversight role guaranteeing the building and running of the hospital with an emergency room and the core services now in place. The district board should have the ongoing role if making sure there is always a quality hospital for the people of this community. I support the District Board expanding its role to deal with the critical shortage of physicians and nurses in our community.

I ask for your support and pledge to work for a quality hospital and medical community that has the highest standard of care, is responsive and provides ready access to our community.
