BRUCE D. HOTCHKISS Age: 53

Occupation: State Employee

Education and Qualifications:

I am dedicated to improving life for everyone in Pacifica. During the past six years I have served on the Pacifica Planning Commission, voting against projects that I felt were not in Pacifica's best interest and which blatantly violated our existing regulations. Prior to being appointed to the Planning Commission, I served on the Open Space Committee. Neither of these are paid positions.

I have been the President of the California Association of Regulatory Investigators and Inspectors (CARII) for the past four years. CARII is an affiliate of the California Union of Safety Employees (CAUSE), a union of over 6,500 state law enforcement and regulatory employees. It was my honor to serve as a member of CAUSE's negotiation team during the 2001 contract negotiations.

As an active member of the CAUSE Board of Directors I am frequently called to meet with our state's leaders, including Gov. Gray Davis, Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, and our area legislators. As a member of the CAUSE Political Action Committee, I spent many hours before the March primary interviewing legislative and statewide candidates from all areas and political parties of our state. My political internship with CAUSE will serve Pacifica well in the coming years because I am now on a first name basis with many of the decision makers who may affect our future.
