Economic Development

Candidate for City Council; City of Pacifica

WE CAN DO IT!
There is no magic pill that will save Pacifica from economic ruin. I'm not counting on a White Knight who will ride to our rescue. If we want to build a strong, viable economic base, we will have to do it on our own. I am convinced Pacifica has to offer something just a little different than other areas of the San Francisco Peninsula.

We have all heard the ideas - big box retail, outlet mall, Carmel-like, open space, ocean-oriented, eco-tourism, etc. When we moved to here in 1991, the hotel industry was dying. I couldn't understand why. Pacifica is so close to everything yet has a remote feeling even though it is only twenty minutes from downtown SF or SFO. What a perfect place for a vacation or honeymoon.

I have asked people in the City or East Baby, what they think of when they think of Pacifica. Two places come quickly to mind - Nick's and The Pier. One generates money, one doesn't. Pacifica needs more places like Nick's, destination spots. (Maybe we should ask the Gusts if they would like to patent what they have and sell it to us.)

Picture a Pacifica with dozens of "Nick's," businesses that generate return business. Picture Rockaway, the Quarry, and Beach Blvd., full of visitors spending money. WE CAN DO IT PACIFICA!
