Smart Voter Official Statement for Shirley J. Hoch

Candidate for
Board Member; South San Francisco Unified School District; 4 Year Term

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

SHIRLEY J. HOCH Age: 53

Occupation: Incumbent

Education and Qualifications:

Education is alive and well in the South San Francisco Unified School District.

As your elected representative for 12 years, I am proud of the Board's record of improvements. Our record is strong--experience counts.

Test scores are above the national average and improving annually.

In 2001, five of our schools qualified for API awards and 13 of 16 South San Francisco Unified School District schools met or exceeded state growth targets. Reducing class size has provided the extra time needed for the classroom teacher to work directly with students. Kindergartens are now full time classes. Day care is at every elementary site. High schools are among the safest in our nation.

We have adopted a Master Plan for Educational Technology, increased summer school opportunities for all children, remodeled facilities, encouraged citizen participation on committees, increased employee compensation and continued to maintain financial stability in a slumping economy.

Every citizen has the right to expect a quality education for students. As the mother of six children, civic leader, PTA member, and Rotarian, I am committed to keeping our schools safe and strong learning centers.

Your vote on November 5th will allow me to continue working to keep our schools a positive place for education. Thank you. shirleej1@yahoo.com
