The Quarry

By Sue Digre

Candidate for City Council; City of Pacifica

This information is provided by the candidate
What did your parents and your trusted financial advisor warn you? You never get something for nothing! How about the following:
Keep it simple.

Our environment is our economy. Market it, don't mar it.

The quarry is central. The quarry is stark.

The quarry is unique. It is a draw.

The wetlands have lured numerous species of birds and human birdwatchers. How can we cater to their interests and collect consistent, on-going revenue, through the good times and the bad?

Market it. Keep it simple. Don't create traffic nightmares.

Bikers and hikers, dog walkers, they love it--how do we cater to their interests and collect steady revenue?

How about, a horseman's heaven as well?

Keep it simple. The quarry is immense. Plenty of room for quiet relaxation and a dog park and a skateboard park.

Keep it simple. Cater to the interests of folks who already know and love Pacifica.

Keep the openness of Pacifica. Keep the outdoor recreation draw.

Respect the environment.

Highlight the environment.

Showcase the wetlands, the birds, the endangered species, the nature loving humans, the dog lovers, the dare devil skateboarders, the rugged hikers and bikers, the rock enthusiasts, the ocean lovers, the nature lovers, the small town tourist enthusiasts.

If we want to get fancy, go for full out ecotourism.

Keep it simple.

The quarry is a quarry.

It is a draw in its simplicity and complexity.

It can be a vital part of that economy that we must have to protect our environment.

Our environment is our economy.

Where-else can you find such a unique setting and these possibilities--except maybe the Kilauea Crater in Hawaii.
