TERRI COOK Age: 44

Occupation: School Administrative Assistant

Education and Qualifications:

It would be my honor and privilege to serve you on a full-time basis as City Clerk. I was born and raised here and have been serving the Belmont community in a number of ways since the 1970's. I am well qualified for this position for the following reasons:

I am familiar with the duties of the City Clerk's office, and have the ability to apply my technological, organizational and communication skills necessary to maintain vital City records, prepare and manage council meeting packets, coordinate elections, oversee legal noticing and postings, interpret policy, and provide key administrative support to the city council.

With over 18 years of administrative experience at a local public school district, I regularly interact with the tax-paying public. Many of the skills gained from this position can apply to the office of City Clerk.

I have served as a city council member since 1997, and was a planning commissioner for three years prior to that. I am very familiar with the staff and organizational structure of the City departments. One of the more critical aspects of this position is to serve as ambassador for the community. The public regularly calls upon the City Clerk to help demystify the processes of local government services. Because of my many years in the public sector, I can easily fulfill this important role.

I have a very good working relationship with the City Council members and with the City Manager. The City Clerk provides vital support for these offices.

The Clerk serves as the eyes and ears of residents and the City Council at City Hall, and answers only to the voters. The public service component of this office is significant, and is the key reason for my seeking this office.

I am uniquely qualified to serve as your City Clerk. I have the knowledge and ability to perform the wide range of managerial duties of the position, the experience as a long-time volunteer in Belmont, recognized leadership skills, and the desire for full-time community service.

As your City Clerk, I will remain accountable to you, the public. I will also commit to serving in this position long term, as continuity will benefit the community the most.

I would appreciate your vote on November 5.

/s/ Terri Cook
