Vote for a Change

By W. Charles Perry, MSPE

Candidate for Board Member; San Mateo - Foster City School District; 4 Year Term

This information is provided by the candidate
Our current school board has failed: 7 of 8 administrators quit, we have a 20% annual staff turnover rate, we have no long-term educational plan, we have no permanent district offices, and we have educational troubles at Turnbull Learning Academy. These failures are beginning to negatively affect our children's education. Regardless of who is at fault, the current school board is responsible. On November 6th, vote for a change.
In my opinion our current school board has failed:

  • Our school district's superintendent, six assistant superintendents, and one board member resigned en mass last spring.

  • We have a 20% annual turnover rate in our teachers and staff.

  • We have no long-term strategic plan to improve our children's academic performance.

  • We have no permanent district offices.

  • One of our schools, Turnbull Learning Academy, has the lowest academic performance of any school in San Mateo County.

Although SAT-9 test scores improved gradually on average through last year, I believe that the effects of the school board's failure are beginning to be felt and our children's education is beginning to suffer.

Regardless of who is at fault for this failure, the current school board members are responsible. In the world of business if a corporation was in this condition the stockholders would replace the board of directors. In the world of politics we the voters should elect new school board members. On November 6th we have the opportunity to do exactly this: four out of five school board positions are up for re-election. Three incumbents and six challengers are running for these four positions. On November 6th, vote for a change!
