The services the fire department is being asked to provide has entered a new phase. As always we respond to fire, medical calls, and all the typical calls you need the fire department for. But even in this corner of the county, we must be prepared for the unexpected. Our firefighters need to be equipped and trained for biological and chemical hazards. It's reasonable to assume that, in our district, the staff of two or three firefighters would be challenged to control a chemical and/or biological hazard and deal with exposed citizens too. We have to provide the training and equipment to our volunteers as well.

We are somewhat isolated from the large population areas that make a better target, but that same isolation presents challenges in emergency transportation of the sick or injured and in controlling some emergencys.

I am committed to maintaining the necessary training and staffing and equipment to keep our firefighters, paid and volunteer, as a safe, effective emergency service ready to respond to all types of emergencys.
