Letter To Town Voters

By Ted Driscoll

Candidate for Councilmember; Town of Portola Valley

Why I'm qualified and running.
Dear Portola Valley Resident:

I ask for your vote on November 6th to reelect me to the Portola Valley Town Council. I have lived in town with my wife and two children for sixteen years. During this period, my wife and I have served as volunteers appointed to key town commissions, and I have served on your Town Council for eight years, twice as Mayor. I have come to know the issues and their backgrounds during my tenure. I have also had the opportunity to meet and listen to many of you over those years. I have learned how this town works, and I understand the challenges we face. I have substantial business experience managing large budgets and staff, and an educational background in architecture, regional planning and geology.

I am not a politician, and I have no political aspirations. I frankly don't enjoy campaigning or being in the public eye. But I do fiercely love this town and what it has meant to me and my family during our lives here. Portola Valley is unique in its rural character, thrifty government, and cooperative attitude in working out town-wide issues. I am volunteering to serve another term, to carry on my work on those issues I have grown familiar with, and because I simply want to give something back.

I don't presently intend to run a more active campaign other than producing this letter --- no ads or mailings, no blimps or baby-kissing. I am also self-financing my campaign and specifically ask you to not make financial contributions. You have no idea how much paper work and accounting is required if I accept a single check. I am also not actively seeking formal endorsements, partly because I believe that after my fifteen years active in our town's volunteer work, most involved town residents know me and can vouch for me. In past elections I have accumulated this huge list of names, and then had to print them in such fine print that no one could read them! If you would like to help my campaign in any non-financial way, please contact me.

Thank you for your consideration. I hope you will vote for me on November 6th.
