Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Dennis Schmidt

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Atascadero Unified School District; 4 Year Term

Although I am a life long registered Democrat, the local party chose not to invite me to their first candidate forum because of philosophical differences with respect to school issues and the typical party platform. As a parent of three elementary school children, some of my views are quite conservative. On the other hand, although many members of the local republican group agree with my points of view, because I'm a registered democrat they have shied away from supporting me because of my party affiliation. At first I was bothered by this because the position of School Trustee is suppose to be non-partisan, and all that I'm running into is partisanship. I have now moved past my initial disappointment, and consider the fact that neither group will vocally support my candidacy as an advantage. In the voter information guide that has been sent to your home, I describe one of my strengths as an independent thinker. A vote for me is a guarentee that someone on the Trustee Board will not be influenced by those whose only interest is power and control. See my position papers to understand why.
