"A common goal of our community is the education of our children, and for some families this means choice and education outside of the public system. For this reason, I support the Draper School Voucher Initiative."
It has become evident that some families within our School District boundaries are interested in choice when it comes to their children's education. This is evidenced by the number of students which (1) are home schooled, (2) have and are transferring from neighborhood campuses to both the Santa Rosa Academic Academy and the new Arts Academy District schools, (3) have transferred to other schools outside of our district be they public or private, and in the larger picture, (4) the proliferation of charter schools within our State and throughout the Country. For this reason, I support vouchers. I'm cognizant that if approved they will take some monies away from our system, but in the end they will improve our public education through choice and competition. I believe we all agree that a common goal of our community is the education of our children, and that for some families this means schooling outside of the public system. We need to keep this fact in focus, and support these desires no matter where we stand on this issue.
