I am an RN who worked for 15 years at Marin General Hospital and I care deeply about the quality of care our community receives. My experience leaves me uniquely qualified to meet the healthcare challenges facing us today.

My most recent position was Director of Emergency, Psychiatric and Staffing Services. During my tenure, I increased staffing, designed and built the new Emergency Department and led a team of staff who found ways to decrease costs in Psychiatry, saving the unit from closure without decreasing services. In 1996, my position was eliminated and I was laid off! I currently own a management and financial consulting business with my husband.

Friends and colleagues ask why I am running for this office. I am no apologist for Marin General or Sutter. I've spent over 30 years caring about quality patient care. I care about the nurses and other staff who work there. I live in this community. Marin General is where I go for my healthcare.

I have had the experience of trying to do more with less and I lost my job as a result of dwindling healthcare dollars. I'm running because I want to make sure that your healthcare dollars are spent for healthcare. I believe that the way to achieve quality care is by working together rather than fighting in the court system. I want to protect you, the taxpayer, from the risk of financing a possible $204 million dollar seismic retrofit.

I will bring leadership, expertise and the knowledge of local resources needed to develop a cooperative, constructive relationship with Marin General Hospital and other healthcare providers. In this time of growing concern over the effect of managed care on quality of hospital services, I know how to interpret and judge quality measurements. My presence on the District Board will ensure that your interest in quality care is well represented.
