Smart Voter Full Biography for Kenneth R. "Ken" Manning

Ken has a proven history of Community Service and dedication to the communities he serves. After graduating from college he moved back to Hacienda Heights to start a business and raise his family. Ken's and his wife Susan, also a Los Altos graduate, immediately became active in community activities. Ken joined Kiwanis and Sue became active in the local Junior Women's Club. In 1979 Ken ran successfully for the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District Board of Education. He was returned to that board four more times before he retired in 1999.

In 1992 Ken was asked to seek a seat on the board of the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District to help restore a business metallity to the district. After winning election he was immediately appointed their representative on the important San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority. Over the last eight years Ken has provided leadership and direction on a variety of issue that will effect the residents of this valley. As one of the primary architects of the plan to clean up the underground basin, he has helped save hundreds of millions of dollars for the residents of the San Gabriel Valley. He was recently congratulated by Congressman David Drier for his assistance on acquiring millions of dollars in federal funds for basin clean-up.
