Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Donato B. "Don" Garcia

Candidate for
Assessor; County of Los Angeles

This information is provided by the candidate

I have chosen to run for county Assessor because I, more than any other candidate, understand the frustrations taxpayers face when dealing with the bureaucracy that is the Assessor's Office. As Chief of the Assessment Appeals Division, I have dealt with thousands of taxpayers that were not satisfied with the assessments placed on their property by the Assessor. I have the most experience in helping taxpayers than any of the candidates. My division needed to handle over 300,000 assessment disputes since the middle 90's. Sadly, none of these taxpayer disputes could be initially resolved in the Assessor's Office. My experiences with these tax-paying citizens have left a lasting impression on me. I am running for Assessor to stand up for these taxpayers and give them a voice. I believe that the Assessor's Office does need change. It needs a leader who will make progressive changes in operations and promote legislation that will benefit the people and business of this county. There is much that can be done. I believe my experience and insight distinguish me from the rest of the candidates and afford me the best opportunity to make a difference, and that is why I am running.
