Customer Service

By Donato B. "Don" Garcia

Candidate for Assessor; County of Los Angeles

This information is provided by the candidate
*Providing customer friendly treatment is essential
It is unfortunate that improving customer service is one of the main campaign issues involved in this election. What this means is that the present Assessor does not have the ability and or motivation to provide the public the level of service they expect and should be receiving. The Assessor and his office view themselves too much as a revenue generating body and not as servants of the public. There are a number of changes, which if implemented could improve customer service. The first and most critical item needing change is leadership. A new County Assessor that will motivate staff towards eliminating taxpayer frustrations is essential. I understand these frustrations better than anyone does and this will allow me to make real changes to enhance service. Electing an individual that is energetic, motivated, and capable of exciting their staff towards excellence is a beginning. The Assessor must be capable of changing how his staff treats the public. Upgrading antiquated technology and enhancing staff skills are also areas that must be addressed. Using today's technology to expedite service, become more accessible, and less bureaucratic must become departmental goals if service is to be improved.
