Candidate for Assessor; County of Los Angeles

This information is provided by the candidate
Ideally, information technology and the Internet can be used to assist in more accurately and expeditiously completing the duties of the office. Staff will have access to property data instantaneously. These tools can definitely enhance the service provided to the public. The time taken to exchange property information between the Assessor's Office, other county departments, and property owners will be drastically reduced. Yet, both of these tools have been widely available for sometime. Why is it that the Assessor's Office is just now realizing their potential? If it has taken staff this long just to receive computers, can you imagine under the present leadership how long it will take to put these technologies to proper use? It should be mentioned that the Assessor's Office still has problems just being able to handle their telephone calls.

I envision an office that is at the forefront of technological improvements. Using the Internet, items like video conferencing will allow the public to have instant interaction with Assessor staff. Present day advancements in satellite technology will allow all property parcels in the county to be mapped and detailed information including actual pictures of the property potentially will be available within the click of a mouse. These and other technological improvements will need to be implemented if the Assessor is truly to provide quality taxpayer service in today's ever-changing world.
