Dear friend:

It is unusual for me to get involved in a Marin County election, but my longstanding interest in public ethics compels me to write you.

The incumbent, Annette Rose, has flagrantly and repeatedly used public funds for her own personal use and for political purposes.

For several years - from 1996 until last August, County Supervisor Rose has misused a County credit card for her own personal benefit. Despite repeated warnings from the auditor, she spent $3500 of public money at Home Depot to buy herself kitchen cabinets and purchase personal clothing - at Ross Dress for Less - and to buy flowers for an
unidentified person in Virginia.

All this use of public money is illegal. Whether or not the District Attorney prosecutes depends on Ms. Rose's intent. But for the purposes of this election, you can decide on March 7th that it is time to reject the free-spending incumbent's third term bid in favor of an honest, citizen-activist - Toni Kendall.

I have known Toni since I was Governor. She has the integrity, the energy and the imagination to make an honest and dynamic contribution to the Board of Supervisors. The illegality and the arrogance displayed by the incumbent cries out for change.

Toni Kendall has my strongest endorsement. I urge you to vote for her on March 7th for Supervisor in the 3rd District.

With respect,

Mayor Jerry Brown
