This press release was emailed to our Smart Voter News distribution list on October 18, 2000:

Web White & Blue 2000, a nonprofit, nonpartisan project of the Markle Foundation designed to highlight the ways in which the Internet can expand and enhance citizen participation in our nation's democratic process, recently featured Smart Voter at http://www.webwhiteblue.org/.

Smart Voter, http://www.smartvoter.org, is also featured as a nonprofit voter guide on Web White & Blue's State by State Directory. Here you find reliable, nonpartisan, state-level voting information on the Internet, offered by official state election agencies and nonprofit organizations.

Smart Voter, produced by the League of Women Voters of California Education Fund, is a charter member in Web White & Blue, which made its debut in 1998.

The centerpiece of Web White & Blue is an historic event the first online presidential debate. The "Rolling Cyber Debate" features daily exchanges among the presidential campaigns and responses to questions submitted by Internet users.

Web White & Blue is a nonpartisan consortium of 17 of the largest Internet sites and news organizations that have come together to highlight the potential of the Internet to expand citizen participation in our democracy. The sites include major portals and news organizations which together reach more than 85% of the total U.S. Internet audience. That's nearly 70 million Americans every month.
