Parent of 2 children who attend San Diego public schools.

Graduate of the University of California at San Diego with a Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry/Cell Biology in 1993

10 year career in the field of Biotechnology in San Diego (1993-2003)

  • Worked collaboratively to develop a system to detect differential gene expression in various samples including breast cancer cell lines. Worked collaboratively on research concerning irregular prostate cell growth. Worked collaboratively on a system to detect Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms. Worked collaboratively to develop a commercially viable test for HPV and for inherited diseases.

Past PTA president and held several other PTA offices at neighborhood elementary school (June 2005-current)
  • Revived the site PTA by building sound relationships with administration, teachers, and parents; increasing parent and teacher involvement in PTA; and implementing sound governance practices and transparent accounting for funds and expenditures.

Founder of the Parent Advisory Leaders group (2012-current)
  • Brought together the leadership from the Parent Advisory Groups (CAC for Special Education, DAC, DELAC, GATE DAC and later CTE) to act together on issues affecting all our students.

Chair of the District Advisory Council for Compensatory Education (January 2013-current)
  • Leads the District Advisory Council (DAC) for Compensatory Education which is responsible for monitoring and making recommendations concerning the use of funds from the state and federal government that are to serve the needs of socio-economically disadvantaged students.

Chair of the GATE Tiger Team (2012-2013)
  • Collected and organized input from parents across the district with regard to the services provided to students in the GATE program in San Diego Unified.

Co-Chair of the Title I Tiger Team (spring 2011-current)
  • Maneuvered the Title I Tiger Team recommendations through the district bureaucracy with all recommendations ultimately being adopted by the school board by a 5-0 vote.

Member of the San Diego Unified Local Control Accountability Plan Task Force (March 2014-current)
  • Work with a team that includes parents, teachers, staff, and central office personnel to write the district plan for student achievement.

Parent member of the Taft Gear Up team (2011-2014)
  • Works collaboratively with Taft teachers, counselor, and administrator to meet Gear Up goals of creating a college going culture at Taft middle school.

Girl Scout Cadette Troop leader (2012-current)

Currently, serves on high school School Site Council. Served on 2 School Site Councils (SSC) and Site Governance Teams (SGT) at the elementary and middle school levels.

Volunteer at local high school and K-8 charter school.
