Bertha Lopez is a careful manager of public resources. She is an advocate for school site leadership and community control of schools. She opposes eliminating school boundaries; every school, in every neighborhood needs to be an excellent school. Parent involvement increases when students attend their neighborhood school. Bertha Lopez knows that highly trained teachers have the biggest impact on student achievement. Teachers need to be supported in the Common Core Curriculum. This 21st Century learning program is essential to prepare our students for college or careers after high school.

ADVOCATE FOR STUDENTS: She is a tireless advocate for students. Schools should be about instruction and not construction. She demands that governing and policy meetings center on academic and student services and not buildings and gimmicks. She supports sports, visual and performing arts and vocational programs that complement the core curriculum.
