My goals as a board member

By Jennifer Hamler

Candidate for Board Member; Encinitas Union Elementary School District

This information is provided by the candidate
To provide a safe learning environment for our children (without this foundation other goals are simply unachievable)
1. To provide a safe learning environment for our children (without this foundation other goals are simply unachievable)

2. To give parents and teachers a voice in decision-making on significant issues affecting how our children are educated

3. To provide our teachers with the resources they need

4. To ensure any significant curriculum changes have been fully researched and piloted

5. To promote transparency. All board meetings should be televised so parents and the community can watch at home. All board agendas should be emailed out to all the parents so they can decide whether or not to attend the meetings. Prop P money needs to be independently audited and transparent to all in the community. According to the study released June 2014 by the San Diego County Taxpayers Association, the report, "School Bond Transparency in San Diego County", Encinitas Union School District was the least transparent only meeting 10 of 23 criteria. This is unacceptable.

6. To promote fiscal responsibility. Money should be in invested in the classroom to aid in direct instruction, help manage class size, and invest in technology that will push our children to new levels -- not just replace worksheets.
