Meet Matt Hall

Matt Hall is a 44-year Carlsbad resident where he has served -- first on the city council and then as mayor -- since 1994.

Matt is a Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heard recipient who returned from service in the U.S. Army to become a successful businessman and active community leader. He is an original member of the Village Redevelopment Committee and a more than 40-year member of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce.

Matt's further community involvement includes stints on the Carlsbad Planning Commission Open Space Committee, the Carlsbad Design Review Board Committee, the Committee to Study Growth, the General Plan Update Committee, the Committee to Study Redevelopment, the Village Master Plan Update Advisory Council, and the Buena Vista Lagoon Joint Powers Committee.

He also has served on the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) Board since 2004 and on SANDAG's Executive Committee since 2008 as well as its Transportation, Planning Safety and North Coast Transportation Study Committees. Matt likewise has been a member of the Encina Wastewater Board and Committee, the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Task Force, and the League of California Cities Revenue and Taxation Committee.

Additionally, Matt's business and personal endeavors include the Citizens and Carlsbad Chamber's LEGOLAND Committee, Carlsbad Rotary Club where he was named Rotarian of the Year (2000), California Auto Recyclers Association as a member and past president, Carlsbad Charitable Foundation, and North Coast Calvary Chapel Church.

Matt and his wife Phyllis have three daughters and two grandchildren.
